Yes, even as I constantly ponder the meaning of life and the universe that surrounds us, I still watch cartoons. Hell, I love cartoons. I seem to enjoy them more now than when I was a kid.

Animation not only brings characters of different shapes and forms to life, but it also welcomes us into different worlds where imagination knows no limit. Aside from the visual adventure, watching cartoons for me is also a chance to take it easy and turn my brain off for a couple of minutes. Hours even if I’m binging because it’s just too good!

This week, I’m sharing with you 7 cartoons or animated series made for kids, but you can also enjoy as adults. These cartoons are all in Netflix. The titles are hyperlinked so you can just click and get straight to watching!

1. We Bare Bears

Grizzly, Panda and Ice Bear are three adopted bear brothers struggling against their animal instincts to fit into the civilized, modern human world.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been fascinated how there are different kinds of bears. They’re of different colors. They eat different things and they live on different environments.

This show puts these bears together and lets them live in the city alongside humans in today’s modern age of technology. Each bear has his own personality, but their personalities blend well together as they prove again and again their strong bond of brotherhood. Fun, easy and just the slice of slice show you need to have a good time.

2. Steven Universe

A group of magical guardians called the Crystal Gems teach a boy to use his special abilities as a human-Gem hybrid to help them protect humanity.

Now this show unexpectedly became my favorite cartoon of all time. From simple slice of life episodes to shocking revelations here and there, the story slowly builds up into something much bigger than what you would have thought.

You’ll see Steven grow and ultimately fall in love with him throughout the show. The alien gems, the fusions, the musical numbers and even the locals of Beach city, they all have their own stories and resolutions.

Steven Universe also showcases multiple LGBTQ characters and it depict different types of love in such a profound and meaningful way. Steven Universe has a special place in my heart.

3. The Amazing World of Gumball

Gumball the cat and his walking goldfish, Darwin, get into all kinds of crazy situations in this engaging animated series from the Cartoon Network.

This show knows no limits let me tell you. You’ll see that from the variety of insane characters of different animation style on the show. It is definitely weird, out of the box and kinda doesn’t make sense at times. But to think about it, it actually does. No matter how silly and ridiculous the adventures that Gumbal, Darwin and the rest of his family is up to, the message will sink in by the end.

The show is very meta and it plays around not only with the elements of the show, but the components of the universe as whole. The characters also throw in a couple of woke lines here and there before doing something stupid again. Isn’t this fun? Hahaha.

4. The Boss Baby: Back in Business

The Boss Baby brings his big brother Tim to the office to teach him the art of business in this animated series sprung from the hit film.

Didn’t you love Boss Baby the movie? Well the series is actually quite good. I was curious to see how baby life was now that Boss Baby is with his new family. He still talks and works full time at Baby Corp.

I just really enjoyed this cartoon and I guess I laughed too much when BB makes all of those business puns. Like as a corporate slave myself, I relate so much.

5. Hilda

Fearless, free-spirited Hilda finds new friends, adventure and magical creatures when she leaves her enchanted forest home and journeys to the city.

It was really relaxing to watch this. The weird creatures and the vast landscapes. The colors schemes are just visually astounding. I don’t even recall much dialogue from the characters or from Hilda, herself. I don’t quite remember if there was much of a plot either. I feel like an episode is more on stunning visuals and brilliant music scoring. Haha.

6. Avatar: The Last Airbender

Siblings Katara and Sokka wake young Aang from a long hibernation and learn he’s an Avatar, whose air-bending powers can defeat the evil Fire Nation.

Yes this was a huge part of my childhood and I myself have tried, but failed to bend every element: Water, Fire, Earth and Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. (hahaha)

This is the best cartoon of all time, with best character developments and story ever. I mean who wasn’t heartbroken when Appa was captured by dessert bandits? Aang and the others lost him for such a long time and we felt that.

If you haven’t heard of this, what planet do you live in? Kidding. Definitely watch it now. The avatar series actually continues with The Legend of Korra. This is also a good watch, but sadly it isn’t in Nextflix yet. Let’s wait and see.

7. The Dragon Prince

An extraordinary discovery inspires two human princes and an elven assassin to team up on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.

To be expected from the creators of Avatar: The Legend of Aang, the Dragon Prince is brilliant as well. You’ll definitely get the same feels as Avatar but with a whole new different set of characters, creatures and world to fall in love with. The series is still not done and I’m sure they have a couple more surprises and exciting stuff to throw our way.

So that’s it. I hoped you had as much fun as I did going through my favorite cartoons. From simple slice of life shows, to exciting adventures with a mission to save the world to just straight-up silly shenanigans, any of these animated series will be sure to give you one hell of a great time!

You can try and watch it with your kids, or younger siblings, nephews and nieces. I hope you guys will enjoy them as much as I did. You’ll also get to learn a bunch of valuable lessons that can shape your growth regardless of your current age. And besides, it’s so boring to be an adult. Wouldn’t we just want to be kids again?
