We live in a world where….

Money, fame, and power. Society has deeply ingrained in us that in order to be successful in this world, you need to be rich, famous, or powerful. We build our dreams on the foundation of society’s definition of success and work hard all of our lives to possibly make it.

The reality is, society expects us to fit into its categories of success. We have this mindset that in order to survive in society, we need to be successful. We need to finish school, get a job or start a business that earns millions. We need to be the best in our field and be loved and supported by millions of people. And in order to make an actual change in the world, you need power, influence, and a whole lot of money. These types of success aren’t guaranteed for everyone. But give it a shot, and society might reward you.

In school or at work, you get awards or recognition for a job well done. “Congratulations” come pouring in, and this motivates you to keep doing better. You should be proud of your achievements and know that they are well-deserved. Keep it up and continue learning because you’ll do greater things in the future.

But what if you don’t win? What if you don’t have anyone around to recognize or appreciate the hard work you’re putting in? What if what you’ve achieved so far is not enough to meet society’s expectations? Will you not count your achievements anymore? Will you give up, and completely forget how far you’ve come? Let me ask you, who are you working so hard for? Are you doing it for yourself and your loved ones, or are you actually seeking validation from other people who hardly care about you, or from a society that is less forgiving?

What Does Success Mean to YOU?

Know that even if you’re not rich, famous, or powerful, it doesn’t mean that you’re not successful. You are doing a good job, even when nobody is there to tell you so. Reject society’s definition of success and realize that you don’t need the validation of others. Set your own goals in life and design an action plan for your journey towards triumph. Create your own personal meaning of success and be proud of your progress, no matter how big or small.

Every person is unique and living a life that’s most likely different from yours. This means that success has different meanings to different people. But even if we’re in different parts of the world or are currently at different stages in our lives, there are always valuable lessons to learn from each other.

What Does Success Mean to Me?

Success for me is achieving the goals I set, and helping people through the work that I do. As overly ambitious person who tries too hard in everything he does, it’s frustrating to come up short. I’m chasing after success, and I seem to always end up tripping and falling face first. If you judge by society’s standard of success, everything I’m doing right now isn’t good enough. I don’t earn enough money. Not enough people read my work and I don’t have influence over people that would make brands or companies want to work with me. Does that make me a failure as a blogger? Does this mean that I should give up my website because none of the hard work matters? No, right?

I may feel like that way sometimes, but it’s important to remember why you started in the first place. I dreamed of becoming a writer to express myself. and I’m happy that I get to do that with my website. I’ve come a long way, and that is enough to be proud of, right? Knowing that I’ve touched the lives, and helped a number of people out there even for a short time in their lives is enough.

These challenges are hard to overcome, but failure is part of the process. My goals are still there. I just need to be more patient, forgiving and know that as long as I continue growing and wanting to become better, I will achieve my dreams no matter how big they are.

Know that you’re already successful…

Stop comparing yourself to other people and be happy and supportive of their success. Know that you are already successful no matter how near or far you seem to be from achieving your dreams. Not giving up is an achievement in itself. Trust that you will get there. Own your meaning of success, and take charge of your life.

We all have our own passions, sentiments and purpose for living. Find your purpose in something bigger than yourself by helping others. Continue to challenge yourself, to learn, to grow and to live every moment. Appreciate the things you have right now, and know that your past self made this happen.
