To celebrate the release of her debut single “Just Got Home”, singer/songwriter Denice Lao invited us to her “Denice Just Got Home” Music Launch last October 9, 2019 held in Jess and Pat’s in Maginhawa, Quezon City.
Along with her debut single “Just Got Home”, Denice also performed a set list of her unreleased original songs: “Overthinking”, “Araw at Buwan”, “Ikaw Lang” and a couple others. Denice even shared some fun stories behind each of the songs she’s written and talked about the journey she went through to finally decide that she’s ready to put her work out there.
The night also featured special performances by friends in the OPM scene, singer/ songwriter: Kai Atienza and Archival Gan and also local bands: Pusakalye and Banda ni Mayor.
The launch was a small and very intimate gathering of friends, family and supporters who love Denice and believe in her talent and potential as musician. Congratulations and praise were pouring all throughout the entire night and we couldn’t be more proud of Denice. We’re all so excited about the things to come!
About Denice Lao’s Music
Her debut single “Just Got Home” which I immediately saved to my Spotify playlist and listen to everyday, talks about how exhausting it is to screwed over again and again, may it be by love or life in general. Why will you wait and give “something” a chance when you can never get the timing right? Why would you still bother trying? I strongly relate to the message of this particular song, because it can really be frustrating to feel like you’re either rushing or waiting too long. Realize your worth. Let go and just come back home.
Denice describes her music as “random pop-infused songs that speak to the heart” and I’m very impressed from the original songs she played during her launch. Her performances felt like very personal experiences. I feel like a lot of young girls (like myself) will relate to her songs, especially those who’ve fallen in love, experienced heart break in the past or are just having a tough time in life. Her songs are very cute, catchy, refreshing, and always carry uplifting messages. I really can’t wait for you guys to hear her other songs and I’m so looking forward to the new songs she will be writing.
Congratulation Denice!
Denice is actually a friend I just met recently. Whenever you talk to her though, you’ll feel like you’ve been friends with her forever. She was one of the talented songwriters I met when I attended the Ilog Pasig Taga-Alog Song Writing Bootcamp last September 2019. At that time, she was very doubtful of her music and unsure of the career she wanted to pursue.
She sent me a voice message of “Just Got Home” in Facebook messenger one day and then weeks afterwards, I already saw her making waves. From a lyric video in Youtube, to streamable songs both in Spotify and Apple Music, her song on the radio, a sponsored music launch, a really creative music video and then several radio guestings? She was everywhere. My jaw literally dropped to the floor, completely in awe about everything she was already accomplishing at just a short amount of time. She is brilliant and the way she is marketing her music is super effective and can I just say, flawless? What a genius!
During the launch, Denice told us how she is slowly overcoming her insecurities and working on improving herself and I believe she is making great progress. The massive turn-out of people who attended the launch also gave me a sense of her solid support system and just how giving of a person Denice really is. I’m so excited for you guys to get to know more of her through her music.
We can do this!
Denice’s story is very admirable and inspiring. It’s heartwarming to see people work hard, to devote their life on pursuing their passion and share it with the world. You have to really be brave to take those first steps, but you have to know that you don’t have to be alone. You can ask help from other people who are ready to support you, people who will lift you up so you can reach the stars.
I think that we just have to believe in ourselves enough to know that we can do it. We all have potential within ourselves. We might not feel as skilled or confident now, but as long as we continue pursuing what we love, we can get better. We don’t have to be perfect. We have to allow ourselves to start making mistakes we can learn from and then continue moving forward from there. What are you waiting for? Take that first step towards your dream. Let us hear you sing that heart out, Darling!
Thank you so much to Dichali Dela Cerna for all of the pictures I used from the event. Special thanks to my friend, Marga Mingoa and of course, Denice Lao for the extra help on this piece. See you guys on the next one!
