One moment I was watching the latest episode of Drag Race Philippines-Snatch Game and then the next, I’m face to face with more than half of its cast!
Just like it was straight out of an episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race, Nectar held the Renaissance Drag Ball: Night of a Thousand Beyonces last September 16, 2022 with drags queens from House 628 as hosts: Eva La Queen, OV, Prince, and Marina Summers! The night was jam-packed with loads of excitement, extravaganza, and Beyonce everywhere you turn. All the queens were dressed up as the legendary icon, most sporting gold or black referencing outfits from her music videos or past concerts. The DJ was playing nothing but Beyonce songs and the program lined up for the evening were lipsync performances from our House 628 queens and drag competitions for our local drag queens. There was also a special performance of former OG Nectarine and our Pambansang Bungaga, Vinas Deluxe!
Local queens put their creativity, uniqueness, nerve, and talent front and center in three different Beyonce categories. They had to serve Face, Runway, and Lip Sync to everything Beyonce with our hosts and the audience as judges. The winners of the categories got to win big-ass trophies and cash prizes.

Of course, my highlight from the night was watching my favorite Drag Race PH queens do lipsync performances. My friends and I were so starstruck seeing fabulous queens in person that we forgot to drink even when we were in a club and all! We were too busy being engrossed watching the queens perform and freaking out about the fact that they were so close to us! I didn’t even get a chance to sightsee any cute guys because I was too captivated by the beauty and talent of these drag queens.
Aside from the Drag Race PH House 628 hosts: Eva La Queen, Prince, and Marina Summers, the other queens from the show also showed up in support and to have a good time. Lady Morgana, Minty Fresh, Brigiding, Precious Paula Nicole, and Corazon came up the stairs to where were standing and they were literally drinking at the table next to us! Of course, we took this opportunity to take as many selfies as we can. You can actually see how excited I was from how big I was smiling. I couldn’t contain how ecstatic I was-sorry!

Having our own drag race franchise here in the Philippines has been a dream come true, not only for the Filipino drag queens but also for the queer Filipino audience! I’m excited because the world gets to see just how talented, smart, and freaking entertaining queer Filipinos are. I love that more and more people are finally enjoying drag and how it is bringing people together. I am enjoying the episodes of Drag Race PH so far and I’m excited to see who wins the crown and becomes the Philippines’ first Drag Superstar! My bets are of course the bad-ass b*tch, Marina Summers, or my Misis, Vinas Deluxe! They haven’t lip-synced for their lives yet, but gurl could they devour whoever they would be set up against!
Thank you so much to Sony Music for inviting us to this event. We had a fabulous time, a dream come through even! I keep playing Beyonce’s Renaissance Album on Spotify just to relive the night. I encourage you guys to do the same! All hail Queen B!

I love the theme — Renaissance! I’m a fan of historical and classic events. I’ve never been to a drag queen event. Should be interesting. The closest I’ve been to one was when my son played the role of the young Lola in Kinky Boots here in Manila.
