Happiness means different things to different people. We all want to be happy, but for some people, they don’t actually know what happiness means for them.
“I don’t know the answer to that question. Maybe, I haven’t found happiness yet.” – Hideki
A lot of people are in constant search for happiness, looking for it through romantic relationships, money, fame, professional success and external validation from friends or family. They crave for that good and positive feeling, thinking that if they just find it, they’ll be set for the rest of their lives.
“WE CANNOT FIND HAPPINESS! It’s useless. Haha.” – @wo_imee
In most cases though even after all that, humans are never truly satisfied. Even after achieving success and finding love, one can still feel unhappy so they try to look for happiness again. That search for happiness turns to greed, and eventually a hollow sense of emptiness and lack of meaning.
“I feel like one can’t really find true happiness in real life, because I feel like it’s in our nature to always crave something we can’t or don’t have. We’re always on the pursuit of achieving something we want. And once that happens, we jump on the next goal and it becomes a cycle. We may be able to achieve those things, but there’s always a part in us that feels like something is still missing. It brings us joy for the time being, but we are never truly happy.” – Simon
So my question is “How do we find true happiness in life?”. Is there a definite answer to this question? I’m sure there isn’t, but I think that having everybody else’s thoughts on this would give us a wider perspective. Thank you to all those who answered this question across all of my social media platforms. I’ve got to tell you guys that you’ve given me some sort of solace and hope. Happiness is within our reach!
6 Answers to How We Find True Happiness in Life
You need to love yourself first.
Happiness starts when you finally learn to love and appreciate yourself. You will never be happy if you rely on other people to love you or provide for you. You have to be able to be independent and manage on your own. Be comfortable spending some time alone and take some time to get to know yourself better. Stop caring about what other people will think and don’t pretend to be somebody else. Accept yourself for who you are. Love the good things, and embrace the flaws you have no control over. Be the best version of yourself you can be and be willing to put in the work to grow and become better each day.
“True happiness first must be found within yourself. It’s long term process as you keep growing as person day after day. You will start to realize this by yourself. Your personal outlook towards yourself will evolve and the consequence of that will be you start to see the goodness in others and your surroundings. Just like this saying: ‘What you feel inside is what you will attract’” – Rizwan Rafeeq
“Be vulnerable. Show up as yourself. Don’t try to ‘fit in’. Only remain in relationships where you can belong as your true self” – Marvin Mohler
“Happiness comes from within.” – Yvonne Lam
“You find true happiness within yourself.” – Gloria Istre
“Be yourself. Be happy and do things that bring you happiness and joy.” – Shermain Melton
You need to you pursue you passion, in any way you can.
Chasing our dreams, ambitions or maybe just doing activities that we enjoy doing. These are some of the things that allow us to be excited for the future and make us want to keep moving. What topics of interest do you personally love so much that you’ll never get tired talking about it? What kind of stuff would you never get tired of doing? What are you actually interested in learning more of and possibly want to put in the time and effort to excel at.
Don’t give up on your passion. It’s unrealistic to expect everyone to be successful in pursing their passion as a full time job. This isn’t a perfect world and we aren’t all that lucky. Again, just try doing the things you love for yourself and it doesn’t have to earn you money just yet or at all. You have to find way and make time to chase your dreams and pursue your personal passion no matter how silly they might sound. With consistency, you’ll get better and everything else shall follow.
“I’m happy because I get to do what I really like doing.” – Karla Niña Mallannao
“Doing what you like. Yes, being thankful grateful, counting your blessings. Having something to look forward to” – Weei Thien
You need to be thankful and content with what you have.
The opposite of greed is contentment. Once we stop the search for happiness and just appreciate what we already have, we’ll be more at peace with our life.
“Easy to answer: Contentment, but so hard to put into action” – Joanne Coriag-Kitan
Of course, I don’t 100 percent agree with this. Maybe because I’m still young, I personally don’t like being complacent just yet and content on where I am in life just yet. I think that if you’re in an unhappy situation, you should get out or do something about it. Don’t settle for the life you have if you have bigger dreams for yourself and your family. If you want something in your life, you should go out and go get it.
“Daily thankfulness and gratefulness for absolutely Everything!” – Robin Hackler
“I find happiness by balancing my heart’s desire and my mind’s perspective. I can’t have complacency if these two don’t coincide with each other. Happiness is when you have peace of mind and contentment in your heart.” – Hyun Jang Nim
I guess, being thankful and appreciative of the many blessings you have in the moment is a better perspective that just being contented already. Dreams and ambition is good, but we must realize that life is going on at this moment. We shouldn’t be so focused on the next things we have to do or a future we have so little control over. We should enjoy the journey, our life right now even if it will take a while to get to our destination.
“Happiness is living in the moment, being present, living in the now. We expose ourselves to loads of stress by worrying about our pasts and situations we can’t change.” – Alwell Uche
You don’t need to find happiness. It’s a choice.
“Yep, I feel like we don´t find happiness. We have to build it and do the maintenance daily.” – Leah Bauer
Some people argued that we don’t find happiness at all. We actually create it. It’s something that we choose to feel by the decisions we make in our lives. Always try to choose what’s best for your well-being and the people around you. Create moments of joy with your friends and loved ones on a regular basis. Allow yourself to take risk. Grab every opportunity that comes your way and go live life without regrets.
“Simply by deciding to be happy regardless of external circumstances. True happiness is always an inside job.” – Steve Li
“By our choices and decisions we find happiness. True happiness is living in peace and no worries.” – Abby Sung
“By deciding to be happy. Happiness is not an outside job. Otherwise it will always be dependent on circumstances, people, situations… First you have to be happy, then what can potentially make your happiness even bigger, gets attracted to you.
The 2020 with corona is a perfect example of that. The environment changed, so people who were making their happiness dependent on jobs, traveling, dining outside….. had their happiness challenged. The ones who learned how to be happy from inside, i.e. working on their mindset, belief system, raising awareness, remained serene and calm, with their happiness firm and through that attracted what can make it even better – promotions, new jobs, more clients, income, travel, new friendships… I’m talking about my clients. one even got engaged, and another one is moving into a joint home with his girlfriend, after getting a promotion to a leadership position and enrolling into a master that will be supported by his employer.” –Petra Buric
We can find happiness by helping others.
“Giving!” – Javeria Nadeem
Happiness also exists in helping other people, without asking for anything in return. This is the selfless kind of love that does not compare to anything of material value on this earth. When you identify with a purpose beyond yourself, in service of other people, that’s where fulfillment lies.
“I find true happiness in my family and God.” – Lizel Tejares Purcia
“As long as my kids are healthy and happy, I’m also happy.” – Dorry Lyn
“I’m happy as long as my kid is happy. Nothing compares to that” – Nica Rivera
Change our perspective of happiness.
We all see the world in a different way, but the important thing is to keep an open mind. You might not agree with everything people and I have shared in this blog about finding happiness, but you can take what applies to you at this point in time.
For a kid, happiness is as simple as having toys to play.
“I’m a kid. I’m happy playing with my toys, and eating my fave food because I chose to be happy.” – Marcus Rañosa
We adults though, have happiness a bit more complicated because of everything we’ve been through in life already.
“By going through the worst” – Katy Lola
Everybody has their own sets of problems and challenges they’re facing in life right now, and they will never stop coming. We have to accept that fact that happiness is not what life is all about. We have to accept all of the other emotions that come with existing in this world. We don’t have to be happy all of the time. All of our feelings are valid. We must feel pain, sadness, anger, grief, fear, frustration and everything else because that’s how we learn. That’s how we grow and how we survive.
I believe happiness is created by our perspective on life & the ability to see the good in all situations.” – Sara Culver
There are a lot of things in life we cannot control, but we can shift our perspective and do with what we have. You don’t necessarily find happiness even if you’re always optimistic or positive. Life is unpredictable, so instead look at life for what it is and see the beauty out of the simple things in life. Focus on the good things, but don’t ignore the bad things.
“Finding gratitude in every situation. Focusing on feeling good and being aware of your emotions/thoughts.” – Deborah Cherrey
“It’s all in you and all around you. You just have to reach out and be part of it.” – Ghazanfar Ahmed
“Happiness is a state of mind. It only depends on you and the perception of the events that occurs around you. You have choice on letting something bring you down or use it as fuel to improve yourself or simply not care at all. Happiness is waking up in the morning knowing is a better day that yesterday. Is having food on the fridge knowing you will not go to bed with an empty stomach, knowing that you always do what’s right the best way possible. God bless hope you can look inside and see that you have everything you need to be happy.” – Juan Castro

Very nice post. 🙂
I am currently in the middle of spiritual awakening and it is so useful to read your article! Indeed, power lies in the now and being happy with what you already have. Thank you for the inspiration!
What awesome tips for finding true happiness. It is not hard to find true happiness, you just have to find it in the small parts of life.
Happiness is all around you. It is all the little things that happen that you may not notice.
I believe that happiness can be defined by each people but I agree that it can be found within yourself. This is a lengthy but very interesting posts as I got to read different things that made me realize a few more things.
I couldn’t agree more. You need to learn to love yourself, as long as you don’t have self love, you’ll never feel like anyone loves you and you’ll never find happiness.
I always say happiness is an inside job, you have to create your own happiness.
I see a lot of happiness and joy in small things and actually being mindful of life
I agree with all! You must first make a choice to be happy. And find that happiness within yourself then you can be happy with others.
Hmmmm… for me, happiness comes from small packages, which start from the feeling of contentment. 🙂 (wrap up lang ito ng lahat ng sinabi mo 🙂
Number one rule is definitely the first step. You really can’t chieve the happiness in you if you feel there’s lacking inside you. So love yourself first. Oh tht’s the second step pala. Because we need to love God first and everything else will follow.
I don’t know if you will believe me but it’s so easy for me to answer the question, “how do you find true happiness?” Sagot ko tingin lang ako sa anak ko at makita kong masaya sya and healthy, safe, masaya na ako, that’s the true happiness for me
Another great blog post that is so on point!! Especially loving yourself first. I used to find happiness from everyone else except me, and it didn’t go out well. but thankfully now I know better. Also, finding your own passion — super agree! And also helping others makes me happy too! 🙂
Happiness comes in different levels. One is when you find yourselves in tears when you saw something beautiful. When you have that moment, it means you can find happiness in the most simplest form you never expect.
Happiness, like beauty, is relative. My idea of happiness might be different from others. Personally, though, I find happiness in little things. Finishing my chores for the day makes me happy in the same way as publishing a beautifully written article makes my day. I also agree that when you’re grateful for everything that you’re given, it means you’re also happy.
I definitely agree na we need to put ourselves first. How can we be truly happy if we always think of the happiness of others. Dapat ikaw muna before others.
I love all the points you made here. Loving yourself is never an easy job. There are so many factors, both internal and external, that make self-love a difficult thing to achieve. Self-acceptance is the key.
Agree ako sa lahat pero dun talaga ako sa number 1. We need to follow our passion no matter what!
pero bakit ganun.. di pa din masaya….. siguro yung situation na minsan nag sisisi ka.. so hindi pala ako content. hahaha!!!
I can’t say I agree with all that’s been said here. I believe that happiness is a spectrum of many different situations and conditions. I think that a lot of sadness and loneliness and unhappiness root from not knowing our identity in Christ. We always try to look for something to fill the void, but that void is there because it’s meant to be filled by our Creator.
Totally agree with you! That’s also a big part of it. Haha. Thanks for sharing!
