7 Things to Do When Bored at Home During Quarantine

girl, bed, hair

How is everyone holding up? We are weeks into quarantine, locked up inside our homes to keep safe and support our front-liners as they fight this deadly virus. Everybody from many countries around the world has been struggling to adjust into this new norm. We may have a couple more months to go, but let’s keep in mind that this too shall pass.

Even if we’re being told to stay at home and wait, doesn’t necessarily mean that we should do nothing. Let’s not waste away living aimlessly. Let us try to get out of our beds, off of social media and make the most out of our days. We can still be productive even when we’re stuck at home. I also think that having goals to focus on will help get our motivation and moral up.

7 Things to Do When We’re Bored at Home

So for this week, I’ve listed down 7 Things to Do When Bored at Home During Quarantine or goals we can set for ourselves during this quarantine period. We don’t have to be lazy or think of our existence as pointless. We have to get moving, even if it’s just around the house. Let’s continue empowering our bodies and minds for the better days ahead.

1. Finish Reading Your Books

If you’ve got books laying around your house collecting dust, or an ebook unfinished in your library, why not get to reading them? I didn’t know how much I missed reading books until I finally convinced myself to stop being lazy and open one up now. Stepping into a character’s head and being submerged into a new world can just be the kind of escape our minds need right now. And FYI, fictional romances are still the best. Haha.

2. Finish Watching Your Series in Netflix

Yes, it is sad to reach the end of a series you’ve loved watching, but guess what? You can always watch it all over again. If you like sitcoms and have no idea what else to watch, I recommend reading my 7 Underrated Sitcoms in Netflix to Binge When You’re Stuck at Home. Invite your friends to have a Netflix Party or family to watch with you as well for a fun bonding experience.

3. Clean up and Organize Around The House

Since we’ll be spending a loooot of time at home anyways, maybe it’s about time to tidy things up a bit? Cleaning your room, doing your own laundry or doing some routine chores can be quite relaxing, and oddly satisfying. You can also go through your old stuff and get Marie Kondo with it if you like. Declutter and keep only the things that still spark joy. And if you’re into interior design, rearranging some furniture can also be quiet a fun brain teaser and a good workout at the same time.

4. Do Some Home Work Outs

The gyms may be closed, but you can still do a bunch of workouts at home. Maximize the space you have and make the most of the resources you have on hand. There are so many variations of workouts and Pinterest is always a great source for ideas or inspirations (click here). You can also try to learn about programs and workouts by watching videos online. There are also several free online live fitness classes you can take advantage of nowadays.

5. Learn and Acquire New Skills

There are so many things to learn out there if you’re interested. Let’s invest some time for learning into our daily or weekly routine because it can only do us good especially in the long run. You can read books, listen to podcasts or watch Youtube tutorials that can help fuel your mind with knowledge. You can also try to acquire new skill sets and use the time to practice them. Learning doesn’t have to be boring. And since you’re controlling what you’re gonna take in, you can make it fun and interesting for you.

For example, I think that learning about Web Design, Search Engine Optimization and Online Marketing can be helpful to me as a blogger so I’m currently reading articles in Pinterest and also taking courses online. You can also learn something unrelated to work or school. Learn a new hobby, sport or language. It really does depend on you to go after what you want. It does take patience, but you can do it!

6. Try Out Some DIY Projects

Aren’t projects just super exciting? They make us be methodical and challenge our creativity at the same time. No matter what you’re into or what you’re hobby is, I’m sure there is something you’re always wanted to try doing. Pinterest again is a good source for ideas you can check out. Try to find things that will keep you busy and having an output to work hard for can be quite rewarding.

If you like baking, try baking pastries you’ve never done before or try designing a very elaborate cake. If you love cooking, try to come up with your own recipes for dishes and have your family judge your cooking.

7. Donate and Help Out

We can do more than just stay at home. Let’s do what we can to help our medical front-liners and also those families who have difficulties with expenses because they are not allowed to make a day’s living. We will get through this, but we have to help each other out. Let’s show compassion and make donations from our homes through online channels.

You can make a one-time donation to UNICEF by clicking this link. You can also make your donations to other organizations. Read this article from ANCX to learn more about those.

We Can Do This!

Thank you everyone and I hope you enjoyed reading this post. I hope I was able to give you ideas on how you can be productive and have fun while you spend time at home. Come on now, you can do it! I believe in you.

Isolation can be difficult because our thoughts can go to very dark places. The future is unknown and there’s just so much out there that we can’t control. But even if it seems like the whole world has shut down and our lives suddenly hit the pause button, we shouldn’t lose hope and give up. There’s light at the end of this tunnel and we just have to be patient.

We can get past this! Let’s continue praying for the faith of our world and for the safety of our brothers and sisters across the globe.

  3. Tbh, i don’t really find myself bored this cq because being a mom, I got a lot of things to do. I am even requesting that 24hrs should be extended so I can finish the jobs I’m longing to finish doing. I hope you’re doing alright though.

  4. Great list for those na wala talagang ginagawa sa bahay! My daily routine hasn’t changed at all. I just have the privilege to wake up later than usual since I’m now working from home. I think the only adjustment I had to do is to learn working out at home without all the equipment.
