What It’s Like to be a Workaholic

I’ve found a way to pursue my passion in writing through having a blog, but I have a confession. Blogging has turned this Boss Baby into a Workaholic who has an unhealthy addiction to accomplishment and getting things done. Pressure is my track field and I’m always ready to sprint. Let’s get going and conquer the day, every single day!

What It’s Like to be a Workaholic

Busy, busy busy. Every minute has to be spent doing something productive. Was everything checked off my list? Did I clear everything off my plate? So no, I am totally the polar opposite of Chill. Can never be bored. Can never be lazy. I’m always running, running and running.

You’re doing great, but you have to do better.

Go Christian. Just do your best cause that’s the only way you know how to do things! Nothing less than perfection. Always exceed expectations. It’s alright. You can handle it. Look at how far you’ve already come. Your legs are moving so fast, you’re practically flying. “Hahahaha.”

If only I could continue laughing, but I can’t even take a breath of air. I could probably still hold the smile in my face. Look, I’m happy because I do want this. I am having the time of my life and look, I’m getting places. Isn’t this exciting?

It’s tiring to be in a constant competition with yourself. Even when you try to be a better person again and again, it can never be enough. To only see yourself a try-hard who’s forcing his way towards his dreams is unfair. You can never really win.

Why is it easier for everybody else?

I envy people who are happy-go-lucky and just seem to go through life without a care in the world. They live in the moment and go with the flow. Through my eyes, they’re brave people who’s made uncertainty their friend, while I have always considered it as a enemy of great doom.

You have to be prepared. Everything has to be planned ahead, every detail sorted out. A solution should be figured out for every worst-case scenario that may happen. Grab this opportunity now before it gets away and then, this one and then this one.

Overthinking and over-analyzing everything, making sure you did everything right, making sure you have all the the right questions to get the right answers. You may not avoid the unknown but you can desperately grasp everything around it that you can control.

While trying to cover my bases and keeping myself from panicking, I look up and see people hanging around enjoying the sun. They’re not running. They’re not rushing or trying to do everything at once. They’re not lazy, or bored or lost. They’re calm and composed even when they don’t know what’s gonna happen tomorrow. How do you do that? I’m just tired.

There’s no harm in slowing down, you know?

Breathing long, deep breaths that were you start. Slow down, feel the weight of your feet as they touch the ground. You’ll notice that you’re not running anymore. Continue on by walking slowly and look at the world around you. You can appreciate being in the present more and taking in experiences that might surprisingly delight you.

There’s more to your life than your responsibilities, commitments and jam-packed schedules. More than taking breaks, you should take a slower pace. You don’t have to do everything right now. You don’t have to fill every minute of your day with tasks. You don’t have to figure everything out right now. Take your time. Waste your time. It’s alright. Enjoy your stroll and allow yourself the opportunity to relax.

Bro, you need to chill out…

Make peace with uncertainty and accept the fact if there’s nothing more you can do. Get off the track field and go to other places because the world is big. You can never fully imagine what you’ll get to see. Discover new surroundings. Get to know more people and be open on sharing ideas, cultures and interests.

Let yourself feel. Lets yourself be fully in the moment, without frantically waiting for something to happen next. We only have one life. Yes, it might be short, but it will pass us by quicker if we are constantly in a rush. Slow down and take as much time as you need in this life.

Worrying is ultimately useless. You’ll realize that anything can happen. We might be able to control it or we might not. We simply just react or respond to stimuli. It’s better to just dump your doubts away and continue onward with an optimistic outlook.

Life is not a race. It’s an exploration

Let go of that pressure. Do want you feel like doing because you want to. Don’t force yourself to do anything just because you know you’ll beat yourself up with guilt and regret afterwards. Choose what you want to happen in your life and go for it.

Don’t wait for anything though. Get up and get out of that door. Start your adventure through life. You can make the plan along the way while being open for changes and possibilities. See where you end up and enjoy. And, the journey is supposed to be the fun part, right?

  1. you were asking how do people handle the uncertainty of things? we take it one day at a time, sometimes even one hour at a time. Because you also have to set expectations that not all plans are executed the way you want and if you overthink things hindi ka na magkakaroon ng time to adapt. sometimes there is happiness to in the plans na hindi naexecute if you look beyond the work ☺

  2. Ah I can relate to this one “You have to be prepared. Everything has to be planned ahead, every detail sorted out. A solution should be figured out for every worst-case scenario that may happen. Grab this opportunity now before it gets away and then, this one and then this one” Parang feel ko, after I graduate dapat prepared talaga ko para maging successful, so gusto ko nakaplan halos lahat. At walang nasasayang na opportunity kaya woking student rin ako, tapos kasabay rin nung blog ko… sabi mo nga “Can never be bored. Can never be lazy. I’m always running”
